Piazza del Duomo and the Brunelleschi cupola

Slightly further from Hotel Berchielli, but easily reached in a less than ten minute walk through the centre of Florence, the splendid Piazza del Duomo will leave you speechless with its many masterpieces of Florentine Gothic architecture: the Baptistery, the Giotto Campanile and the magnificent Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral.

Distinguished by the typical green and white of the marble they were built with, these sacred buildings are dominated by the famous cupola designed by Brunelleschi, still the largest brick dome ever built and featuring an architectural solution which was wholly innovative for the Crusader era during which the cathedral was built.
